Code of Ethics
CHESAPEAKE BAY RETRIEVER CLUB OF CANADA CODE OF ETHICS

1. To breed only Chesapeake Bay Retrievers that are purebred, and which can be registered with the Canadian Kennel Club or a recognized kennel club, e.g. American Kennel Club.

2. When breeding, strive to improve the breed according to the breed history. Conscientiously plan each breeding, based on parents of appropriate temperament, working ability, physical characteristics, and other
desirable breed qualities.

3. When breeding, the CBRCC strongly recommends that only animals with Hip Certification and current CERF clearances be used. Endeavor to select animals that will reduce the incidence of genetic problems while enhancing the positive attributes and abilities of the Chesapeake. Be open with all persons interested in the welfare of the Chesapeake Bay Retriever and discuss possible physical or temperament defects in your own stock.

4. Only breed animals which are mature and in good health.

5. Do not allow pups to go to their new homes until at least 7 weeks of age. Provide educational information on the pup/breed. Act responsibly towards all pups produced by your stock/kennel.

6. Keep accurate records and pedigrees. Supply registration papers and pedigrees as soon as available.

7. Never knowingly sell or place a Chesapeake Bay Retriever with unethical persons or those who would not provide proper and humane care to the animal. Refuse to sell a Chesapeake Bay Retriever to any pet shop or to any wholesale dealer in dogs.

8. Always conduct yourself in a manner which will reflect credit to yourself and the breed. Refrain from public criticism or malicious degrading of others or their dogs.

9. Promote membership in the Chesapeake Bay Retriever Club of Canada.
